Navodaya Vidyalayas - Navodaya Vidyalayas Samiti

The objective of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas was to make sure that they can provide good quality of education to the talented children predominantly from the rural areas, without regard to their family's socio-economic condition.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test is conducted all across the country to get the best of the students to sit in the exam and then enter into these institutions.

The test is conducted at all block and district levels. The eligibility criteria for entry into such schools is
1. a student of V standard by a Government recognized school
2. in the age group of 9-13
3. a student of III, IV and V in a Government recognized school in a rural area, to apply for a rural quota.
4. a first time appeared in the entrance exam

The samiti is an autonomous organization of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Secondary Education and Higher EducationFree Education

These institutes offer free education to children from Class VI to Class XII. Affiliated to CBSE All the schools are affiliated to CBSE. History
They were established in 1985 by PV Narsimha Rao . There are approximately 557 schools under the scheme.
